How Clobazam Works

Clobazam thought to involve potentiating GABA neurotransmission, which results from binding at the benzodiazepine site of the GABA receptor.

Common side effects of Clobazam

Somnolence, Lethargy, Pyrexia, Irritability, Fatigue, Sedation, Ataxia, Psychomotor Hyperactivity, Insomnia, Aggression, Drooling, Vomiting, Constipation, Dysphagia

Interaction

Drug :CNS depressants (opioids, TCAs): May increase sedation. Avoid use together.

CYP2C19 inhibitors (fluconazole, fluvoxamine, ketoconazole, omeprazole, ticlopidine): May increase levels of clobazam or its metabolite. Decrease clobazam dosage if needed.

Drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 inhibitors (dextromethorphan): May increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 inhibitors. Decreased dosages of these drugs may be needed.

Hormonal contraceptives: May diminish contraceptive effectiveness. Patient should use nonhormonal contraceptives as needed.
