How Miglitol Works

Miglitol lowers glucose level by inhibiting enzymes in the small intestine, which delays the digestion of carbohydrates after a meal, resulting in a smaller increase in postprandial glucose level.

Common side effects of Miglitol

Abdominal Pain, Rash, Diarrhea, Flatulence

Interaction

Drug :Digoxin, propranolol, ranitidine: May decrease bioavailability of these drugs. Monitor clinical response and adjust dosage.

Insulin, sulfonylureas: May increase risk of hypoglycemia. Consider decreasing dosages of miglitol, insulin, and sulfonylureas.

Intestinal adsorbents (charcoal), digestive enzyme preparations (amylase, pancreatin): May reduce effect of miglitol. Avoid using together.
