How Ramipril Works

Ramipril works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, ramipril relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

Common side effects of Ramipril

Fever, Headache, Insomnia, Sleep Disturbance, Chest Pain, Abdominal Pain, Constipation, Diarrhea,Nausea, Vomiting

Interaction

Drug : allopurinol, bone marrow depressants, corticosteroids systemic, procainamide: Increased risk of fatal neutropenia or agranulocytosis.

CNS depressants, other hypotensionproducing drugs: Additive hypotensive effect.

cyclosporine, potassium preparations, potassium-sparing diuretics: Possibly hyperkalemia.

insulin, oral antidiabetics: Increased risk of hypoglycemia.

lithium: Increased risk of lithium toxicity.

NSAIDs, sympathomimetics: Decreased antihypertensive effect of ramipril.

sodium aurothiomalate: Increased risk of nitritoid reaction facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, hypotension.

telmisartan: Possibly increased risk of adverse effects, especially renal dysfunction.

tetracyclines: Reduced tetracycline absorption.

Food : low-salt milk, salt substitutes: Increased risk of hyperkalemia.

Activity : alcohol use: Additive hypotensive effects.
