Roflumilast and its active metabolite, roflumilast N-oxide, are selective inhibitors of phosphodiesterase type 4 (PDE4), a major cyclic-3,5-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-metabolizing enzyme found primarily in lung tissue.
