Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER is used for the treatment or prevention of the following disease(s):
Giardia Infections, Amebic Liver Abscess, Infection of the Colon Causing Bloody Diarrhea, Bacterial Vaginosis, Trichomonas Vaginal Infections
Side effects of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER
The most common side effects of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER are – Headache, Seizures, Dizziness, Confusion, Irritability, Sinusitis, Pharyngitis, Vaginitis, Darkened Urine, Depression, Weakness, Insomnia
These side effects can usually occur in patients. However, these are only indicative and not all patients will experience them.

Do not use Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER if you are allergic to – Metronidazole
If you have heart disease, liver or kidney disease, drug or alcohol addiction, consult your doctor before using Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER.
If you are allergic to any medicine or food, consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Use this medicine under the supervision of your doctor.
To avoid an adverse reaction, consult your doctor if you are already taking other medicines.
How Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER works
Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER contains – Metronidazole
Metronidazole is a direct-acting trichomonicide and amebicide that works inside and outside the intestines. It’s thought to enter the cells of microorganisms that contain nitroreductase, forming unstable compounds that bind to DNA and inhibit synthesis, causing cell death.
Dosage of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER
The dosage of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER depends on many factors such as the patient age, health, medical condition or history of the patient and many other conditions.
Please use this medicine as prescribed by your doctor.
Overdose of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER
If you forget to take a dose of Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER, do not take two doses at the same time, there is a risk of overdose.
If you notice any unusual reaction in your body after taking this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or call your local medical emergency number.
Overdose symptoms – Nausea, Vomiting, and Ataxia (Ataxia is a disorder caused by problems in the brain).

It takes about 1 to 2 hours to show the effect of the medicine.
Duration of Action Metrogyl 600mg Tablet ER
Effect of medication lasts for an average of 20 to 24 hours.
Precautions & Warnings
Alcohol
Don't consume alcohol while taking this medicine; it may increase the risk of side effects. Adverse effects symptoms - changes in heart rate; headache; and breathing difficulty.
Pregnancy
It is safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. However; consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Breastfeeding
Not recommended for breastfeeding women. Please consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Driving
Not safe during driving; you may feel dizzy or sleepy after taking this medicine.
Kidney
This medicine is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. However; Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Liver
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Interaction
Drug :- Busulfan: May increase busulfan toxicity. Avoid using together.
Cimetidine: May increase risk of metronidazole toxicity because of inhibited hepatic metabolism. Monitor for toxicity.
CYP3A4 substrates: May increase concentration of aripiprazole, dofetilide, lomitapide, and pimozide. Monitor therapy.
Disulfiram: May cause acute psychosis and confusion. Avoid giving metronidazole within 2 weeks of disulfiram.
Lithium: May increase lithium level, which may cause toxicity. Monitor lithium level.
Mebendazole: May increase risk of Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis. Consider therapy modification.
Phenobarbital, phenytoin: May decrease metronidazole effectiveness, may reduce total phenytoin clearance. Monitor patient.
Warfarin: May increase anticoagulant effects and risk of bleeding. Reduce warfarin as needed.
