Interactions

Drug :- ACE inhibitors (benazepril): May increase hypotensive effects. Monitor BP and adjust nifedipine dosage as needed.

Alpha blockers (doxazosin): May increase nifedipine plasma concentration. Monitor BP and adjust 1 nifedipine dosage as needed.

Antiretrovirals, cimetidine, verapamil: May decrease nifedipine metabolism. Monitor BP closely, adjust nifedipine dose as needed.

Azole antifungals, erythromycin, nefazodone, quinupristin-dalfopristin, valproic acid: May increase the effects of nifedipine. Monitor BP closely and decrease nifedipine dosage as needed.

Cyclosporine, tacrolimus: May increase serum levels of these drugs and increase risk of toxicity. Monitor serum levels and adjust dosage as needed.

Digoxin: May cause elevated digoxin level. Monitor digoxin level.

Diltiazem: May increase the effects of nifedipine. Monitor patient closely.

Diuretics, fentanyl: May increase hypotensive effects. Monitor BP.

Propranolol, other beta blockers: May cause hypotension and HF. Use together cautiously.

Quinidine: May decrease levels and effects of quinidine while increasing effects of nifedipine. Monitor HR and adjust nifedipine dose as needed.

Strong CYP3A4 inducers (carbamazepine, dexamethasone, phenytoin, rifabutin, rifampin): May decrease nifedipine level. Use together is contraindicated.

Warfarin: May increase PT. Monitor coagulation parameters and adjust warfarin dosage as needed.

Herb :- Ginkgo: May increase effects of drug. Discourage use together.

Ginseng: May increase drug levels with possible toxicity. Discourage use together.

Melatonin, St. John's wort: May interfere with antihypertensive effect. Discourage use together.

Food :- Grapefruit juice: May increase bioavailability of drug. Discourage use together.
