Interactions

Drug :- Antacids containing magnesium: May decrease nitrofurantoin absorption. Separate dosage times by 1 hour.

Probenecid, sulfinpyrazone: May inhibit excretion of nitrofurantoin, increasing drug levels and risk of toxicity. The resulting decreased urinary levels could lessen antibacterial effects. Avoid using together.

Food :- Any food: May increase absorption. Advise patient to take drug with food or milk.
